Is your dog ready for summer?

Seattle

It is starting to get warm again and Seattle dogs and their owners are emerging from hibernation! Dog parks are filling up and the smell of wet dog is everywhere. Just like people who struggle to get ready for swim-suit season, dog’s struggle too! The change of temperature, trying to stay cool, and keeping your dog safe in the beautiful weather are all factors involved with the coming summer. Let’s go over a few important things to keep in mind to help your pooch during the warm seasons!

The biggest factor is keeping your dog cool and comfortable. Nobody likes baking in the sun, including your dog. Keep in mind that if it’s too hot to walk bare foot on the sidewalk, it’s too hot for your pup’s feet as well. Make sure to take walks during the early morning and the late evening, when it’s cooler and more comfortable for the both of you. Carry lots of water on you – you’ll both be getting thirsty! Here at the Zoom Room we carry portable travel water bowls as well as water bottles with a built in bowls so that you can share with your dog. And if you just don’t want to take on the heat, join us for a Group Play session or private gym time. The air conditioning will keep both of you comfortable!

Safety is also a huge factor during summer time! Never leave your dog in a car. The temperature may read 75 degrees outside, but in a closed car it may sky rocket to close to 100 degrees in a manner of minutes! Leave your dog at home if you need to run errands; they’ll thank you!

To add on to safety, make sure you have proper control over your dog. How many times do you see a dog running off leash, uncontrollable, with a frustrated owner chasing them? If you’re going to let your dog go off leash, make sure that it’s in a proper place, such as a dog park, and that they have a reliable recall. If you’re struggling with basic obedience commands, come check us out and spend time learning about recalls, basic commands such as sit, down, and focus!

In the long run, don’t forget to keep your dog happy and comfortable during the summer time, and you’ll both have a blast! Teach them to swim, play fetch or Frisbee, and take lots of selfies with them at the park and post them to our instragram page #zoomroomseattle.

Happy Summer 2015
