Hi there! My name is Abby Normal and I am a Pitbull Terrier who started training at the Zoom Room when I was 4 months old. I will turn 2 years old on July 8th.
If you notice, I don’t look like a normal Pitbull, and I never have. Unfortunately I wasn’t born that lucky. When a dog comes into this world with Hydrocephalus, Microphthalmia, and a Congenital Cleft Palate, they are definitely considered unlucky. From the Hydrocephalus, I had extra Cerebral Spinal Fluid in my skull causing my brain to be a little squished and my head, a little oddly shaped. From my Microphthalmia, I have this tiny eyeball that developed a Cataract in it. It has to work twice as hard as my other eye. And from the Congenital Cleft Palate, I couldn’t drink hardly any of my mom’s milk. It would all come out my nose. I was so undernourished that when my new family picked me up from the hospital, I was 5 weeks old and weighed 1 pound. I could sleep curled up in two cupped hands, comfortably.
After getting my Cleft Palate repaired, my new mom, Cassie, started taking me to the Zoom Room! And that was just about the luckiest thing that ever happened to me. My mom knew I was shy, so not only did she sign me up for Puppy Obedience, but also Puppy Agility after Cheryl and Anna’s suggestions. The Agility equipment was so fun I hardly got scared at all! I have a lot more confidence now (sometimes too much) and I’m slowly figuring out how to be the ideal canine citizen. It helps that I have graduated from 6 different courses at the Zoom Room already. Even though I didn’t come into this world lucky, all the support from Zoom Room, BluePearl Veterinary Partners and Allpet Veterinary Clinic has turned my luck around and proven that you don’t need to be normal to make it in this world.
