With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we knew February’s dog of the month would need to be a real love bug, and nobody fits the bill quite like Maverick! Whether he is greeting people or dogs, he just melts into a gooey puddle of love. He’s quick as a whip—even after a couple months’ break from classes, he seemed to retain everything as if he learned it yesterday. Training with him is a dream, because he’s equally eager to receive his rewards in pets as he is in treats. This little cutie is so charming, he’s stolen the hearts of our entire staff! We hope as this month’s Dog of the Month, you’ll all learn to love him as much as we do.
- Favorite Toy: Squeaky tennis balls (especially the little ones) and almost ANY squeaky toy with ears!!
- Favorite Treat: Chicken Jerky (but Sody introduced him to the Thin & Crispy Turkey Chips and now he loves those for his training treats)
- Favorite Love: To be noticed and loved! He will wag his entire body when someone notices him and wants to pet him! Once in a while he’ll be a little timid and shy, but most of the time he’s saying “Bring on the LOVE!” He loves play dates with other dogs too and has furry friends and buddies of all sizes. He loves to be brushed, groomed and have his eyes cleaned up and his face washed.
- Favorite activity at the Zoom Room: He loves everything! He gets so excited when we drive up to the building. He knows it!! He loves showing his skills on most of the different areas. He’s especially enthusiastic about almost ALL of the obstacles on the Agility Training course.
Maverick’s owner, Lorrie, had this to say:
Maverick wants to do everything we do and seems to sense what different things are required of him based on where we take him. His training at Zoom Room has definitely helped with this!! Whether we’re in a restaurant, the airport, airplane, car, pontoon, boat, in someone’s home, at a soccer game, outdoor concert or in any outdoor setting, and probably places we can’t even remember and he always adapts and acclimates!!
Funny thing… He senses if one of us is leaving and goes between the other person’s legs as if to say “You’re NOT leaving me!”. He is good when we’re both gone though but sometimes he will make us “pay” with play time! Also, sometimes he plays a little game with us when it’s time to leash him up. He wants to go, but he’ll start doing little mini runs, darts and spin moves!! Night time is stuffy toy time and he will bring us his favorites.
He loves to snuggle into our bed, has his own pillow and loves to sleep in!!I’m so glad Zoom Room opened up here and we got started with his training right away. Consistency in training is key. So many people don’t realize the importance of training not just for the dog, but for the owner! Zoom Room and the wonderful training staff do an excellent job of explaining and reinforcing this. We all benefit from well trained people and dogs!!
