Here’s what Gigi’s mom, Stephanie, has to say about her:
I saw Gigi about 4 months ago at the Pasadena shelter when I was dropping off newspapers. She was seated at the back of her cage and wouldn’t come up to me. It took several minutes but I finally coaxed her over to me. I stayed to pet her and talk to her and was taken by how calm and sweet she was. When I left that day, I couldn’t forget Gigi and decided to check in on her a few days later. I was saddened to learn she was now red-listed and could be put down any day. I inquired about adopting her for the purposes of fostering her but was told Gigi had tested poorly with other dogs and could not go to a home with another dog. (I later realized Gigi had never been socialized and was probably petrified when she was temperament tested.)
That night, I couldn’t sleep and returned the next morning with my two dogs to see if they would allow me to do a meet and greet. Luckily, there was a different adoption coordinator that day who decided to give me a chance. All went well and the adoption went through! From the moment Gigi came home with me, I realized she was a special girl. After a month I knew I could never give her away. It’s been amazing to see Gigi come out of her shell. She no longer shakes and walks close to the ground, and after a month of hiking around other dogs, Gigi now goes to the dog park and doggie day care without incident. In a couple of weeks, Gigi will be taking her Canine Good Citizen test. She’s come a long way in a short amount of time which proves all dogs deserve a second chance.
