Meet Oakley

This submission is by Sarah Hale, whose everyday Hero Dog is Oakley, a Chihuahua.

My Dog is My Hero Becauseā€¦

Back in 2008 I fell very ill and started seeing every specialist in the greater Austin Area in search of a diagnosis and cure. I was a Junior in College and had grown up very healthy and athletic, but all of a sudden I was excessively fatigued, covered in hives and suffering with chronic incurable pain.

In the middle of all this madness an event occurred that would have ended my life for sure. The pain was out of control and I just wanted some relief, so I decided to take a hot bath to see if that would relax me enough I could catch up on some sleep. The next thing I remember I was waking up in a hospital.

In the middle of my bath I had apparently dosed off and went into convulsions, I was having a seizure and slowly drowning. Oakley never left my side while I was sick and this evening was no different. He barked and howled in what my room mate described as a scream of bloody murder. She ran in and was able to pull me out of the tub before I drowned and get me to the hospital for immediate help.

My dog is my hero because he saved my life!
