Best Friends Earn Top Honors

Four-year-old Pittie mix Sandy and one-year-old Beagle mix Pennylane have been sisters for less than a year, but you’d never know it by looking at them. Their tight bond is obvious to everyone and it seems as if they’ve always been a family.

Mom Sky first heard of Sandy three years ago. A good samaritan found the young dog tied to a post in the Bronx in New York. The citizen mercifully untied her and took her to the shelter where Sky’s friend first laid eyes on her. Sky says her friend “decided that this beautiful baby ‘supermodel’ (the girl can pose) can’t die and I should be her mother.” Arrangements were made and Sandy began a new life.

The good samaritan who rescued Sandy chose her name. Sky felt it was important not to stress her new friend out anymore and didn’t want to change her name. It didn’t hurt that Sky has a close friend named Sandy who has a big heart and has rescued numerous dogs. It was an homage to an amazing friend.

Pennylane came into Sky’s life last May. Sky found the three-month-old puppy hiding in a bush in Hancock Park. With no collar and no microchip, finding an original owner was difficult. Sky brought her home and began to hunt for her owners. The little dog seemed to be scared of everything except Sandy and Sky.

Sky took Pennylane to the vet for a check up and to see if they knew who were parents were. While filling out paperwork, the vet said, “Give her a name. She has obviously chosen you.” The name Pennylane popped into Sky’s head and came right out of her mouth. She looked at Pennylane, who covered her in kisses, so Sky took that as a sign of approval. After a month of searching, Sky gave up and Pennylane officially joined the family.

While both dogs love all squeaky toys, they have a refined sense of taste. Their favorite snacks are Dutch goat’s cheese and Greek vanilla yogurt.

Both dogs adore Agility. Sandy is known to jump any hedge or driveway and run on top of brick walls during her walks. Pennylane gets super excited every time she gets to the parking lot of the Zoom Room. Her favorite activity is Private Gym time with her sister where she can play with the little brown ball that’s kept in the gym.

Sky sums up her life with these two furry friends: “These two little girls mean everything to me and each other. They make every day brighter and funnier. It’s truly magical to see this odd pair turn my living room into their own private Zoom Room every morning. We love Zoom Room xoxox lick lick.”
