Dog Scouts of America (DSA) is just like it sounds, a troop full of dogs & their owners having fun and learning their way through new dog activities to earn badges that show the accomplishment. Lonnie Olson founded this non-profit organization in 1995. The DSA Mission is “to improve the lives of dogs, their owners, and society through humane education, positive training, and community involvement”. Another great opportunity for dog owners to meet like minded individuals and continue to improve the quality of their dogs life. Meetings are typically held monthly and involve exposure to a dog activity that your dog may or may not be familiar with currently.
Badges are earned for a myriad of activities including several that you can obtain at Zoom Room such as agility, scent work, obedience, and even urban herding (Treibball). Many of the badges are for outdoor activities too; the list is practically endless!
Any dog can become a Dog Scout, mixes or purebreds everyone is encouraged to join. The first badge is a merit badge, which must be earned before going on to further badge success. Troops are currently only in 21 states. If you don’t find one in your state or your area of the state, it is easy to start one. Visit the link to the DSA website below.
