LOS ANGELES, CA, March 4, 2022 – Liz Claflin, a professional dog trainer from Zoom Room, shares her insights and tips on Newsweek about putting young puppies on a routine and sleeping schedule to ease the process of house training. Claflin says that “for puppies, a schedule helps them learn to control their bladders and helps speed up the house training process.”
She explains that “puppies usually sleep 18 to 20 hours a day. Generally, the younger the puppy, the more time sleeping it needs and does. Infant puppies sleep until they need to nurse. Puppies up to eight weeks of age need to eliminate frequently as well. They can’t control their bladders or bowels, so they need to go during the night.”
Claflin notes that “puppies often sleep for long periods of time, but they also take frequent naps. They may be little bundles of energy one minute and then passed out the next! Sleep is an integral part of healthy growth in puppies.”
In order to create a successful house-training schedule for your puppy, Claflin recommends that you “include meals at roughly the same time each day, going outside for a potty break at the same time after meals, water and play sessions. The schedule should also include playtimes and training times. Puppies should go to bed at roughly the same time each night and wake at roughly the same time each morning.” By following these tips, you can help your puppy learn how to control its bladder and bowels, and make house training a much easier process.
