Finch is March’s Dog of the Month!

Fort Worth - Trophy Club

Can you guess Finch’s breed?  Most have no idea.

This gorgeous boy is a Silken Windhound!  First introduced to the world in 1987, right here in Texas, Silken Windhounds are primarily a result of  Borzoi, Whippet, and Sheltie bloodlines.  They are not yet AKC recognized, but will be!

I met this sweet 2-year-old boy on February 9, 2016, and fell in love instantly!  He has been a regular presence at Zoom Room since that date, and is the reason we now have 2 other Silkens gracing our presence.

Why is Finch our Dog of the Month?  His transformation since our first meeting is unbelievable!  When we first met him, he was so timid that he wouldn’t allow approach or petting.  After completing Obedience 1, 2, and 3, Shy Dog Workshop, and Agility 1 and 2, Finch took and passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen Test on February 14, 2017.  This, almost a year to the date from his first visit at Zoom Room!  Finch is also currently enrolled in our Therapy Workshop, and hopes to pass his certification with Therapy Dogs International soon!

Finch loves playing with other sighthounds, and will play with any toy that “squeaks.”  Strangely enough, he also loves baths!  When he’s not playing hard at Zoom Room or chasing his sighthound brothers at home, you’ll find Finch nestled up to his favorite humans on a soft cuddly blanket or his favorite “whisky barrel chair.’

Congratulations to Finch Tarver – Zoom Room’s Dog of the Month!

Just a note about Silken Windhound’s heritage… It was a breeding of a small lurcher (basically Whippet x. Sheltie) to a Borzoi or another Whippet that was used to create the breed all those years ago.

    Thanks!
